3 Ways To Avoid Mistakes When Creating Interior Design CVs

3 Tips to Avoid CV Writing Mistakes When Applying Interior Design Jobs shown by a image of angry interior designer on her resume

Avoiding mistakes when creating interior design CVs is crucial when you apply for a job. Because the smallest spelling or grammar error can mean your application is immediately rejected. And at this stage of the process, many applicants don’t even hear back from hiring managers. A frustrating way for your interior design job applications to end.

So, don’t let it happen to you. Instead, read on and discover how to avoid mistakes when creating interior design CVs.

1: Interior Design CVs are Best Created Using Word Processor Software

Use word processor software when creating interior design CVs. Because word processors are designed for crafting words. Sure, Canva and Adobe InDesign have spelling and grammar checking tools. But they’re nothing like as powerful as those contained in word processors. So draft your resume text in a word processor and copy it to your chosen CV design tool afterwards.

I recommend two: Google Docs and Microsoft Word. The advantage of Google Docs is it is free, whereas you need to pay for Word (unless you have access to it through your University or current employer).

My first choice is Microsoft Word. Because it has everything you need for to create interior design CVs. But with Google Docs you need to add a couple of extensions.

2: Use Free Google Extensions to Take Your Interior Design CVs Up a Level

As I said above, Microsoft Word has everything you need to create interior designer CVs. So use them. Word’s spelling and grammar checker goes way beyond spelling and grammar. It offers advice on clarity, conciseness, vocabulary as well as much more.

For a similar capability in Google Docs I suggest using a free Google extension called Grammarly.

Because we don’t notice our own errors easily, another great feature of Microsoft Word is the ‘Read Aloud’ tool. And it does exactly what you’d expect it to. It reads interior design CVs out loud. Making it so much easier for you to spot mistakes in your resume writing.

Similarly to Grammarly, you need a free extension to get this feature in Google Docs. And I recommend using the text to speech (TTS) extension, Read Aloud.

3: For an Even Better Resume, Match the Hiring Company’s Language Settings

This final tip is both subtle and brilliant.

English is not one language. It varies from location to location. Hence why there is UK English, US English, Australian English, and so on.

Each with different spellings.

More importantly, with unique grammar conventions.

So help the Hiring Manager see you as the best person for the interior design job. Write your CV in their English language. And you can easily change your language settings in both Microsoft Word and Google Docs.
